# In a saltwater solution, what is salt?

In a salt water solution, the salt clearly derives from $\text{sodium chloride.}$
And in salt water, discrete $N {a}^{+} \left(a q\right)$ and $C {l}^{-} \left(a q\right)$ ions, i.e. aquated or hydrated ions, exist as ${\left[N a {\left(O {H}_{2}\right)}_{6}\right]}^{+}$ etc.
