In "Lord of the Flies," why does Piggy want Ralph to be the leader?

Explanation:

In the beginning of the book, Ralph and Piggy meet and become friends.

Another explanation is that Piggy represents the science behind society, Ralph is the leader (most probably democratic), and Jack is the military commander (who stages a "coop d'tat" at the end of the book).

Science and warfare do not mix. This may be a reason Golding chose Ralph and Piggy to become friends and why Piggy chose Ralph as a leader. Piggy did not want an angry military general as the leader of this group of boys.
