# Is division of rational numbers associative?

Nov 5, 2014

No, it is not; for example,

$\left(1 \div i \mathrm{de} 2\right) \div i \mathrm{de} 3 = \frac{1}{2} \div i \mathrm{de} 3 = \frac{1}{6}$,

but

$1 \div i \mathrm{de} \left(2 \div i \mathrm{de} 3\right) = 1 \div i \mathrm{de} \frac{2}{3} = \frac{3}{2}$.

I hope that this was helpful.
