Is most of the air movement in the Intertropical Convergence Zone horizontal or vertical?

Mostly vertical, but includes a horizontal component too.

Explanation:

The Intertropical Convergence Zone arises from heating in the equatorial region of the earth. This causes the air to heat up and expand and it also becomes less dense - so, it starts to rise up and move laterally toward the polar regions in the upper atmosphere. Once it starts to cool in the upper atmosphere, it gets more dense and starts to sink back down toward the Earth. So, it goes both vertically and horizontally See pic.
