# Is there a difference between an integral and a “primitive function”?

By definition, the primitive function $F \left(x\right)$ is the indefinite integral of a function $f \left(x\right)$ that includes a constant $C$. This means if you take the derivative of this primitive function you should end up with the original function:
$F \left(x\right) = \int f \left(x\right) + C$
