They wanted religious freedom and did not agree with tariffs on American products.


  1. The Mexican government wanted Americans in Texas to be Mexican citizens who followed the Catholic faith. However, many Americans who came for economic purposes were raised Protestant, and did not want to change faith.
  2. The Mexicans wanted the Texans to support the Mexican economy and buy Mexican products. However, many Texans wanted American products, so high tariffs were imposed on the products from the USA. This was not convenient to Texans.
