On a cold winter day, why does a steel metal fence post feels colder than a wooden fence post of identical size?

Well, steel is a good conductor of BOTH heat and electricity.....

...whereas wood is an insulator..... While both the wood fence post, and the metal pole may be at the same temperature, the latter is more effective at conducting heat away from your hands.....and so the metal post feels cold.....
