Explanation:

Basically the line AB is a straight line. And straight lines are always 180 degrees. And also, the angle EOG is given as 90 degrees which is denoted by the little square thingo they always give. So firstly sum all that makes up angle EOG to find y. ie:
#27+3y=90#
#3y=90-27#
#y=63/3#
therefore #y=21#

Now we can solve for x. Because we have y, we know the sum of everything on the straight line should equal 180. ie:
#x+27+3y+8x+18=180#
We already know #27+3y=90#
so, we collect like terms on the x, leaving us with:
#9x+90+18=180#
#9x+108=180#
#9x=180-108#
#x=72/9#
and hence, #x=8#
