A "ratio" describes the relative amount of one thing to another. In this case, the ratio is given. To solve for the other metal masses we just apply the ratio to the amount of zinc.

#Ni:Zn:Cu = 2:7:9# ; #Zn = 4.9#

#2/"Ni" = 7/(4.9"Zn") = 9/"Cu"#

#Ni = 2 xx 4.9/7 = 1.4#

#Cu = 9 xx 4.9/7 = 6.3#

Now we add of of these masses up to find the final weight of an alloy with 4.9lb. of Zn and these ratios.

Alloy Mass = #4.9 + 1.4 + 6.3 = 12.6#
