Ed and Pete has 57 toys together.

Explanation:

So let write this out as a proportion before solving for x of the missing value. Now as it is a solid object, you cannot have a decimal value because you cannot have half of a toy unless it is specifically asking for a part of the toy like a robotic arm or something.

So let write the proportion out.

#5/2# = #25/32#

The numerator represents Ed Toys
The bottom represents Pete toys.

So adding Pete Toys from what he had before which was 2 toys and adding 30 toys as Ed gave him gives him 32 toys. Since Ed gave away 30 toys, 30-5=25.

32 + 25 = 57 toys.

#100 + 40 = 140#

Explanation:

#E/P = 5/2#

#E - 30 = P + 30#

#5/2 * P - 30 = P + 30#

#5P = 2P + 60 + 60#

#3P = 120#

#P = 40#

#E = 5/2 * 40 = 100#

One gave 30 to the other one, 70 + 70
