This is based on the balancing of the weight of the respective ship or boat by the buoyancy force of water.

Now,the base of the ship or boat has a large area,so that buoyancy force acting on it reaches a larger value which is able to balance its weight.

In reality,a small portion of the ship sinks under the water,so buoyancy force acts on that volume of the ship, which just balances its weight and the ship can float very easily.

Again, all the materials present inside the ship is not of same density and the ship itself is not purely solid,so its weight gets easily balanced by the buoyancy force of water.
