The way I would answer this is by first simplifying the bottom denominators as you need those to add. To do this I would multiply 12 by 16 to get 1632. I would multiply 38 by 4 to get 1232. This leaves you with 1632+1232+632. From here we can add these to get 3432. We can simplify this even more by dividing by two to get 1716 this is as simplified as this equation gets.

Explanation:

First we need a common denominator. In this case, we'll use 32.

Convert 12 by multiplying it by 1616

121616=1632

We must also convert 38 by multiplying it by

3844=3432

This leaves us with a simple equation:

1632+3432+632

Now we simplify the numerators, and finish the equation.

432+632+632=1632

We can also simplify this.

1632=1642=42

If necessary, this can be rationalized.

4222=422=22
