2) Then for each number: subtract the Mean and square the result.

#5 - 24 = -19#; #-19^2 = 361#

#10 - 24 = -14#; #-14^2 = 196#

#25 - 24 = 1#; #1^2 = 1#

#30 - 24 = 6#; #6^2 = 36#

#50 - 24 = 26#; #26^2 = 676#

3) Then work out the mean of those squared differences.
