The area of window #A=x^2-14x+48#.
The window's length is #l=x-8#.
Let the window's width #w#

So

#wxxl=A#

#=>w=A/l=(x^2-14x+48)/(x-8)#

#=>w=(x^2-6x-8x+48)/(x-8)#

#=>w=(x(x-6)-8(x-6))/(x-8)#

#=>w=((x-8)(x-6))/(x-8)=x-6#
