For this reason, a lot of the people that went to Jamestown spent most of their time mining. However, they could not produce any thing from the mines. But they kept trying. Food supplies dropped overtime, disease (mostly malaria) started to spread, and people began starving. One colonist even took to cannibalism, eating his own wife. Many starved or died of disease.
