The Sharpeville demonstration of 1960 resulted in what?
The deaths of innocent protesters
On March 21st 1960, 289 innocent protesters were shot by the South African police and 69 were killed. Many were shot in the back as they were fleeing.
It brought into international focus the horrors of the apartheid regime in South Africa although it would be over 30 years before it was brought to an end.
The date March 21st, is now commemorated in South Africa as Human Rights Day
