a mixture of colours

Explanation:

What we perceive as white light is a mixture of pure colours, including at least red, violet and something in between.

Actually it could consist of a continuous spectrum or simply include enough of a selected range of pure colours as to affect our eyes as if it were the full spectrum.

Our eyes are not great at distinguishing. For example, what we see as yellow light could be a pure colour, or a mixture of pure red and green.
