Let the smallest integer be $x$.

The other integers are therefore $\left(x + 1\right) , \left(x + 2\right) \mathmr{and} \left(x + 3\right)$

Their sum is -42

$x + x + 1 + x + 2 + x + 3 = - 42 \text{ simplify and solve}$

$4 x + 6 = - 42$
$4 x = - 42 - 6$
$4 x = - 48$
$x = - 12 \text{ this is the smallest integer}$

The integers are -12 -11 -10 and -9.
