so 1/3x + x + 1/3x + x which would simplify to 2/3x + 6/3x (same as 2x) then you would get 8/3x = 32

multiply both sides by 3 to get 8x = 96, dividing by 8 to get x = 12
the width is 1/3 x and 1/3 x = 4 so the width is 4cm.
