The alkaline earth metals are located on the second group of the periodic table, and have a favoured oxidation state of #+2#. Their properties are that they are shiny, silvery in colour, and are kind of reactive. Another point is that they all can be found in nature.

The first alkaline earth metal is beryllium, which has an atomic number of #4#.
