An easy way to remember the difference is that the S in supplementary is basically two C's together so imagine C as being half of S ( S is 180 while C is half, so 90)

If two angles add up to 180 and one is 140 then either subtraction or simple algebra will do. $180 - 140 = 40$ or $140 + x = 180$ and solve for x.
