Two stars have the same brightness when viewed from Earth. Is it correct to say the stars are the same distance from Earth and have the same temperature?

Not necessarily.

Explanation:

The brightness of a star when viewed from Earth depends on two things:-

  1. It's luminosity, &
  2. It's distance from Earth.

So two stars when viewed from Earth may appear equally bright due a no. of different combinations of the above two factors.
