Metamorphic rocks can be either foliated or non- foliated.

Explanation:

Quartzite or marble would be non-foliated rocks as they are massive and don't show any strips or parallel lines in the rock.

A Gneiss or schist would be foliated rocks as they both show strips or parallel lines in the rock. Foliated rocks are this way because the rock has been under great pressure and the mineral slowly turn and orient themselves perpendicular to the major stress field.enter image source here
