Not specifying their level of study, and you have done that here.

Explanation:

What do we mean by solvation? I don't know....

Most of the time, when we specify solvation, we specify a chemical reaction. The dissolution of an ionic solute, SPECIFIES a chemical reaction....... i.e.

#NaCl(s) stackrel(H_2O)rarrNa^+(aq) + Cl^(-)(aq)#

The ions in solution are #"solvated"# by 4-6 water molecules....i.e. to form the aquated ion.
