# What are some common mistakes students make with solvation?

May 12, 2018

Not specifying their level of study, and you have done that here.

#### Explanation:

What do we mean by solvation? I don't know....

Most of the time, when we specify solvation, we specify a chemical reaction. The dissolution of an ionic solute, SPECIFIES a chemical reaction....... i.e.

$N a C l \left(s\right) \stackrel{{H}_{2} O}{\rightarrow} N {a}^{+} \left(a q\right) + C {l}^{-} \left(a q\right)$

The ions in solution are $\text{solvated}$ by 4-6 water molecules....i.e. to form the aquated ion.
