Epistasis is synonymous with rising action in a story. For examples, see below.

Explanation:

*SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

In Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," the epistasis occurs when Claudio and Don Pedro witness Borachio, pretending to make love to Hero who is in fact Margaret, in a plan to stop Claudio and Hero from marrying. After this comes the climax of Claudio denouncing Hero as wanton.

Another example is in the novel Twilight, when James begins to chase Bella. Him chasing Bella and the Cullen family trying to protect her gradually becomes more intense as the action rises, until it climaxes when Edward fights James and Bella is bitten.

A last example is in the movie "The Goonies," in which Mikey, Brandon, Chuck, Mouth, Andy, Stef and Data are continuously being chased by the Fratelli's for the treasure map. This chase leads to a rise in action, until the climax where the Fratelli's fight the Goonies.
