Any type of exercise will do. The heart is a muscle which has evolved over and over again for many generations. The heart is conditioned to endure any form of exercises. But the most typical one and proven by cardiologists to really help is brisk walking and running regularly.
During the ancient days, there were only animals to serve as transportation but they are expensive to afford for most people so they would only walk or run from one place to another. When you walk or run though, make sure you are hydrated and stretch so that your muscles will not get fatigued too easily which will result in a cramp and dehydration. Feel your body as well if it needs to rest or better yet, consult with a physical trainer to aid you in how many miles you can run or walk before stopping to rest.
