Because it presents the elements in an ordered array....

Explanation:

...and elements with similar electronic properties lie on the ONE RADIUS from the origin of the Table...

Hydrogen is the simplest element, and is thus the origin.

Well, the horizontal arrangement is very familiar...

AS to why this table may be preferred, well, the shape of the table looks like a hippy yin-yang symbol, which could get some punters to study it.

From where does this question come? Is it first year? I ask because someone is being creative.

Here's what I get.

Explanation:

(a)

The picture is a Periodic Table because it groups elements with similar properties together.

Spiral

The "radii" that go out from the centre of the spiral connect elements in the same Group.

Thus, we have

#"Group 1: H, Li, Na, K"#
#"Group 2: Be, Mg, Ca"#
#"Group 3: B, Al"#
#"etc."#

Edgar Emerson invented the spiral Periodic Table in 1944.

(b)

Hydrogen is the lightest element in the Periodic Table, so it is the logical element to place at the centre of the spiral.

As you move along the arms of the spiral, you come to the next heavier element in the Periodic Table.

(c)

The rectangular form of the Periodic Table is easier to use because all the Groups are arranged vertically.

This arrangement makes the rectangular form much easier to read.

(d)

One advantage of the spiral Periodic Table is that, as scientists discover new elements, they can just add another one to the end of the spiral.

In the rectangular form, you sometimes have to add a new row.
