What are the characteristics of stem cells?
Stem cells have the potential to become any cell in the body.
The 2 main types of stem cells involve:
Pluripotent : stem cells that have the potential to develop into any human cell.
Multipotent: stem cells that can develop into some particular cell types only.
Once stem cells are obtained, they can be used to produce specific tissues in the laboratory, which can then be transplanted into a patient, to replace/repair damaged tissue.
