It is usually associated with something sinister.

Explanation:

The plumage of the Raven is particularly dark and this may be why it is often associated with a sinister theme. An example would be the short story The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.

A raven also appears in Dickens' Barnaby Rudge. The eponymous hero has a pet Raven called Grip. Although not entirely sinister, Rudge is portrayed as being unstable and this is symbolised in the character of Grip.
