Typically, 5 or Earth systems are recognized, with perhaps a sixth.

Geosphere or lithosphere is the Earth's crust, Hydrosphere is the water on the planet, Cryosphere is related to the hydrosphere but is the frozen water on the planet, Atmosphere the gases, and Biosphere - life on the planet. Increasingly, many scientists feel we should add the Anthrosphere or human activities on the planet which are becoming a major impact on the other systems. One other one might be the Cosmosphere - impacts from space like asteroids, comets etc. on the Earth.
