# What are the products of complete combustion of octane?

Nov 22, 2017

Carbon Dioxide ($C {O}_{2}$) & Water (${H}_{2} O$)

#### Explanation:

Octane is made up of simply Carbon & Hydrogen.

In complete combustion, all the carbon and hydrogen atoms present react with oxygen ('combust') and thus the following occurs;

$C$ + ${O}_{2}$ = $C {O}_{2}$

$4 H$ + ${O}_{2}$ = $2 {H}_{2} O$

For Octane this would be;

2${C}_{8} {H}_{18}$ + 25${O}_{2}$ = 16$C {O}_{2}$ + 18${H}_{2} O$
