The overall mechanism of cellular respiration involves four processes.

This is the process where glucose molecules are broken down to pyruvic acid.

B) KREB'S Cycle
Pyruvic acid molecules are broken down to release energy . This energy is used to form high energy compounds like NADH.

C) Electron Transport System
Electrons are transported along a series of co enzymes and cytochromes. This in turn releases the energy in the electrons.

Here the energy given off by the electrons is used to pump protons across a membrane and provide energy for ATP synthesis.

Plant cells use cellular respiration as a means of converting stored energy into a chemical that individual cells can consume.
Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm.
Kreb's cycle, electron transport system and chemiosmosis occur in the mitochondria.
