What are the three types of muscle, and what do they do?

The three types of muscle are smooth and striated. But there is more to this.

Explanation:

The reason that I have listed only two types is that both skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle are striated.

The skeletal muscles move your bones and they are what we call "muscles".

Here is a view under the microscope. You can see the light band and dark bands. This gives the striated muscle its' name.

The cardiac (heart) muscle fibers (cells) have bands of light and dark but also have different shapes. The cells also do not need any nerve supply as they beat on their own.

Smooth muscle is only found in what we call hollow organs. The intestines, reproductive tract, and the urinary tract.
The light and dark bands can't be seen but they are there as these bands are what cause the contractions. This type of muscle moves very, very slowly.
