The most common cause of earthquakes is Faulting.

Explanation:

During faulting, parts of the Earth's crust are pushed together or pulled apart. Rocks break and slide past each other. In this process, energy is released. As the rocks move, they cause nearby rocks to move also. The rocks continue to move in this way until the energy is used up.
