What causes kidneys to collapse?
1 Answer
There are numerous causes of kidney failure and treatment of the underlying disease may be the first step in correcting the kidney abnormality.
Explanation:
Kidneys may collapse due to disease that slow down blood flow to the kidneys e.g. Blood/fluid loss, heart attack, infection, liver failure, etc.
Certain conditions, diseases and agents may damage the kidneys. For example blood clots or cholesterol deposits in veins in and around the kidneys, Lupus, multiple myeloma, or medications like antibiotics and chemotherapy drugs, etc often result in collapse of the kidneys.
Diseases or conditions that block the passage of urine out of the body can lead to acute kidney failure e.g. cancers of the bladder, cervix, colon or prostrate, kidney stones and enlarged prostrate.
