What did the Battle of El Alamein reveal about Hitler?

Likely that he wasn't that interested in North Africa.

Explanation:

The North African Campaign lacked focus from the beginning. The Italians were mostly interested in retaining their Colonies in North Africa. Taking the Suez Canal was a pipe dream. The Italian forces were play acting at making a contribution to the war effort.

Their armies lacked mobility and the British armor had an easy time defeating them.

Germany sent in their troops to shore up fading Italian forces as they also did in the Balkans (although this war developed differently). The victories that emerged were due to Rommel and his small armor and mechanized forces. The British inept handling of their own armor contributed.

The battle of El Alamein showed that Hitler was unwilling to put more valuable and increasingly limited resources into this Area of Operations. El Alamein was simultaneous with the Battle of Stalingrad although Stalingrad ended months later.
