The Treaty of Nanjing forced China to do:
- Give Hong Kong to Britain
- Pay a lot of money for reparations to Britain
- Allow anyone to trade with China
- Allowed those who traded with China to be subject to the law at home, not Chinese law (Extraterritorial Rights)
- Open up many more ports than before
