The phloem is concerned mainly with the transport of soluble organic materials made during photosynthesis . This process is called translocation.
Explanation:
Translocation is accomplished by a process called phloem loading and unloading . Cells in a sugar source " load " a sieve tube by actively transporting solutes out of the sieve tube elements , producing the opposite effect.
Phloem sap is also thought to play a role in sending informational signals through out vascular plants.
Organic molecules such as sugars , amino acids, certain hormones and even mRNA are transported in the phloem through sieve tube elements.
The movement in phloem is multidirectional and driven by positive hydrostatic pressure.
