Unemployment and transport access.

Explanation:

African Americans saw their jobs disappear in the South due to mechanisation and recessions such as the Great Depression.

Most could not afford transport and so hitched rides on goods wagons. The therefore often settled where the railroads ended, for example Chicago.

One of the greatest benefits they took with them was the blues music.
