# What group is chlorine in?

Chlorine is an halogen, and is in Group $V I I$ ("or 17") of the Periodic Table.
The name $\text{halogen}$ means salt forming, and certainly there are many halide salts. Elemental chlorine exists as a diatomic gas, $C {l}_{2}$; in fact all the elemental gases, save the Noble gases are diatomic.
