$85000$ move left 4 places $\to 8.5 \cdot {10}^{4}$

Multiply the numbers: $2 \cdot 8.5 = 17$
Add the 10-powers: ${10}^{3} \cdot {10}^{4} = {10}^{3 + 4} = {10}^{7}$

Answer: $17 \cdot {10}^{7}$

Normalise to SN: move one to the left:
$= 1.7 \cdot {10}^{7 + 1} = 1.7 \cdot {10}^{8}$

Decimal this would be: $170 , 000 , 000$
And you could do this by multiplying 2 and 85, and adding the zeroes from both numbers.
