As there are a whole 'pile' of zeros at the end of 8500 this is a more straight forward way of solving this question.

#2/5# is the same as #4/10# so we have:

#2/5xx8500# is the same as #4/10xx8500#

#=4xx8500/10#

#=4xx850#

But 4 is #2xx2#

#=2xx2xx850#

#=2xx1700#

#=3400#
