What is 6 times 8 plus 3a?

Oct 23, 2016

We can write this in maths in the same way as it in written above,.

$6 \times 8 + 3 a \text{ } \leftarrow$ unlike terms, cannot be simplified further.

Because of the order of operations, we know that the multiplication must be done first.

$= 48 + 3 a$

If this has been written as '6 times the sum of 8 and 3a' we would know to add first (using brackets)

$6 \times \left(8 + 3 a\right)$
