A chemical formula is a representation of all the atoms that make up 1 mol of something.

Explanation:

An example we can show with this is something like #H_2O#. We have 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. This is because oxygen has a charge of 2- and hydrogen has a charge of 1+ (in this case). Therefore we need 2 atoms of hydrogen to balance out 1 atom of oxygen.
