A character whose behavior and more importantly appearance are out of the ordinary, bizarre, ugly and abnormal.

Explanation:

Probably the most famous example is Quasimodo The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Victor Hugo's novel. Quasimodo means in the form of a man. Despite his grotesque appearance he is a tragic character full of pathos as his love for Esmeralda is doomed.
