A producer is an organism that makes its own food.

Producers, which are also called autotrophs, are organisms that manufacture their own food. Therefore, they are always on the first trophic level of the food chain.

These organisms use energy from the sun or chemicals, as well as water, to produce food.

A common example of a producer is a plant, such as a sunflower.
