Inertia is the property of a body by which it resists to be in its position of rest or of motion.
The first law also says that i.e.
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion until and unless it is moved by an external unbalanced force.
Thus as the definition of inertia defines the first law of motion,
so the first law of motion is called as Law of Inertia.
