Cell culture media refers to the medium in which desired plant/animal cells are growth in vitro.

Explanation:

Cell culture (plant/animal) refers to growing and maintaining of the selected cell type which has been excised from the normal parental tissue.

A key point to note here is that the correct environment needs to be strictly followed while culturing these cells in vitro ie; the correct temperature, medium and nutrients need to be taken care of for successful acclimatization of the selected cells to the external environment.

For example: if liver cells are desired to be cultured , the same growth conditions of the liver in vivo need to be replicated in vitro.

While culturing cells in vitro we need to have proper knowledge about the environmental and nutritional requirements of the cell.
Accordingly a particular growth medium is prepared to culture/grow the cells.
The medium must contain the correct amount of nutrients like vitamins and salts, it can also contain growth factors, serum and hormones.
