For example, energy conservation means conserving or using energy more responsibly. An individual can conserve energy by lowering the temperature of their thermostat in the winter and hanging clothes on a clothing line instead of using the dryer. A city could conserve energy by switching out old light bulbs in street lights with energy efficient, newer light bulbs. There are multiple was to conserve energy.

Conservation also may refer to conservation of biodiversity and wildlife. Conserving orcas could mean passing laws that would lower the speed limit of ships in ports and coastal areas. We conserve endangered species through outlawing hunting and protecting species habitat, and we conserve biodiverse spaces by setting up parks and restricting access to those areas. These are just examples, as there are many ways to conserve species and biodiverse areas.
