When the sediments are buried if the conditions are right the sedimentary layers turn to stone.
Heat, pressure and amounts of Calcium Carbonate
will cause the sediments to turn to rock ( become lithified)
Calcium Carbonate is found naturally in sea water and acts like concrete bonding the grains of the sediments together.
Spark plugs have been found cemented to rocks in the ocean. All it takes is enough Calcium Carbonate and little pressure and almost instant rock.
